What the Permanent Magnet Generator Buys
A conventional alternator has to spend engine power exciting its own field before it produces a watt for the load. A permanent magnet generator does not — the field is already there in the magnets. That reduces the parasitic load on the engine, which means less fuel burned for the same 15 kW at the container. Over a genset’s service life that difference is the largest single line in its running cost.
Tier 4 Compliance Without Complication
Carrier’s pitch on the Series 13 was that Tier 4 compliance is surprisingly simple, and in service that has held up. The emissions strategy is built into the engine and its controls rather than bolted on as aftertreatment that demands a duty cycle a genset never sees. For an operator, that means no regeneration cycles to manage on a machine that spends its life at part load.
