Description

This is the general Thermo King SB Series listing: tell us the model and the condition you want and we source it. The SB platform spans light single-temperature units through to high-capacity models for 53 foot vans and rail containers, and because most share the TK486 engine family and the SR controller architecture, a fleet can mix models without splitting its parts inventory. Priced from $5,000 depending on model and hours.

The SB+ Range

  • SB-110+ — the light-duty model, for shorter vans and regional chilled work
  • SB-210+ — the volume seller, with ETV and optional SmartPower electric standby
  • SB-310+ — the high-capacity model for 53 ft vans and demanding frozen pull-down
  • SB-310R+ — the rail specification, built for intermodal container service

Common Specifications

  • Type: single-temperature nose-mount trailer refrigeration units
  • Engine: TK486V / TK486VH four cylinder direct injection diesel
  • Refrigerant: R-404A
  • Control: SR-2 or SR-3 microprocessor depending on build
  • Capacity control: electronic throttling valve on plus models
  • Standby: SmartPower 460 V electric standby available on several models
  • Condition: new and inspected used units
  • From: $5,000

Why Thermo King Built the SB+ Line

The brief was operator error, not thermodynamics. Fleets told Thermo King their losses came from units that were set up wrong, not units that failed — so the SB+ generation put its effort into OptiSet profiles, a readable display, a keypad in the right place and fault codes a driver can report accurately over the phone. Fuel economy came along with it: the ETV holds a tighter band around setpoint, and SmartPower takes the engine out of the equation entirely when the trailer is plugged in.

Which Model Do You Need?

Size on pull-down, not on hold. Almost any SB unit will hold a pre-chilled load in a sound trailer; what separates them is how fast they take a warm load down and how they cope with repeated door openings on a multi-drop route. Frozen distribution and 53 foot vans want the SB-310+; regional chilled work is well served by the SB-110+ or SB-210. If you are unsure, tell us the trailer length, the commodity and the route and we will specify it.
