The Carrier Transicold X4 7500 is the high-capacity single-temperature model in the X4 trailer range. The X4 series succeeds and replaces the X2 2500, with a new 2.2 litre engine and the APX control system, and Carrier pushed efficiency hard: the 7500 delivers around 68,000 BTU/hr of cooling at 35°F return air in a 100°F ambient, with the 7300 just below it at 66,000. Carrier or Thermo King?
Both build excellent trailer units and both have dealer coverage across North America. In practice the decision is usually made by what a fleet already runs — technicians who know one platform diagnose it faster, and a shared parts inventory is worth real money. A mixed fleet is perfectly workable, but if you are starting from zero, pick the brand whose dealer is closer to your yard. Engine Hours in Context
Eleven to thirteen thousand hours on a trailer reefer engine is mid-life, not end-of-life. Reefer engines run at low load and constant speed, which is the gentlest duty a diesel sees — very different from a truck engine’s hours. Expect to service injectors, belts and a water pump across the next few thousand hours, and budget accordingly rather than discounting the unit.
