Why No Diesel Particulate Filter Is the Selling Point
A DPF traps soot and periodically burns it off, and that regeneration needs sustained high exhaust temperature. A truck engine on the highway provides it. A reefer engine does not — it idles, cycles, restarts and runs light for hours at a time, so the filter loads faster than it clears. Fleets that ran DPF-equipped TRUs learned this as forced regens, derates and filter replacements. Thermo King’s Precedent engines reach Tier 4 final through combustion and aftertreatment choices that avoid the filter entirely, which is why the platform has aged well.

Maintenance Notes
Belts and idler bearings are inspection items at Thermo King’s scheduled maintenance intervals, and belt or idler bearing failure is the most common roadside call on this platform. On nearly every trade-in we inspect it traces back to an aftermarket belt or a tension set by eye rather than with a gauge. Budget for genuine parts and a proper tension gauge.
