How Series 24 Reaches the Standard

Two changes do the work. An engine control unit takes over fuel metering and delivery, replacing mechanical governing with precise electronic control of how much fuel enters the chamber and when. And a high-pressure common rail system atomises that fuel far more finely than a conventional injection pump can, which burns it more completely and cuts particulate at source rather than trapping it downstream.

The control box changed with it. Series 24 sets add an engine relay, starter solenoid relay, fuel pump relay and glow plug relay that earlier UG and RG gensets did not have — worth knowing before a technician troubleshoots one expecting the old layout.

Why It Costs More

Common rail injection and an ECU are genuinely more expensive than mechanical fuel systems, and that is most of the $2,500 difference against the Series 13. What you buy with it is the ability to operate in California without an argument, and a specification that will stay compliant as other states follow CARB’s lead — which they historically do.

Applications

California and West Coast container drayage, port and terminal operations under local air quality enforcement, and national fleets standardising on the strictest domestic specification. The matching undermount is the 69UG15-068S-24.
