Thermo King Isuzu D201 Reefer Engine

Description

The Isuzu D201 is one of the diesel engines Thermo King used in its transport refrigeration units, and a serviceable used one is a low-cost route back to a working unit when the frame, coils and controls are sound but the engine is finished. These engines were pulled running from reefer trucks; they are palletised for freight and loaded onto your carrier’s trailer by forklift. Listed at $1,500.

Re-Power or Replace?

The question is what else on the unit has aged with the engine. If the evaporator and condenser coils are sound, the compressor holds oil pressure and the controller works, a replacement engine is far cheaper than a replacement unit and puts a reefer back on the road in a day. If the coils are corroded and the compressor is tired, you are about to spend the price of a used unit in labour. Our used SB-210 trailer units start at $5,000, which is the number worth checking the arithmetic against.

What We Do Not Claim

These are used engines sold as running units, not rebuilt engines with a warranty. If you need a reconditioned engine with parts and labour cover, say so when you enquire — that is a different product at a different price, and we would rather set the expectation than have you find out on the bench. The Yanmar TK486V is available as both a used and a reconditioned exchange unit.
