The Thermo King SG-4000 is an undermount container generator set built to exceed EPA Tier IV and CARB emission requirements, and rated to power any ISO reefer container at 15 kW. It mounts beneath a container chassis and supplies the 440-480 volt, three-phase, 60 Hz power a refrigerated container needs in transit. Listed at $9,500.

“Full ISO Power Requirement” — What That Means

A refrigerated ISO container is designed around a defined supply: 460 volts, three phase, 60 Hertz, with enough capacity for compressor starting current on top of running load. Fifteen kilowatts is the figure that satisfies it with margin. A genset that produces 15 kW on paper but sags under motor inrush will not hold a reefer through pull-down, which is why the ISO compatibility claim is worth more than the nameplate rating alone.

Emissions Headroom

Buying a genset that exceeds current requirements rather than merely meeting them is cheap insurance. Emissions rules for non-road engines have tightened steadily, CARB has repeatedly moved first, and a set that only just satisfies today’s standard is a set you may be arguing about in five years.
