Description

The Thermo King undermount genset supplies the 440-480 volt, three-phase, 60 Hz power a refrigerated container needs while it is away from shore power. It bolts under a container chassis rather than clipping to the container itself, which keeps the front wall clear and the overall height down. Listed at $9,500.

Run Time From a 75-80 Gallon Tank

A 15 kW container genset burns roughly 0.7 to 1.1 gallons an hour depending on how hard the reefer is working — a frozen setpoint in a hot ambient sits at the top of that band, a chilled setpoint in mild weather at the bottom. On 75 to 80 gallons that is somewhere between three and four and a half days of continuous running, which comfortably covers a coast-to-coast drayage move without a refuelling stop.

Why Stable Voltage Control Matters

A reefer container’s control electronics are unforgiving about supply quality. A genset whose output voltage sags when the compressor starts and overshoots when it stops will eventually trip the container’s protection or damage its controls. The SG+ controller holds output within tolerance through those load steps, which is the difference between a genset that powers a reefer and a generator that merely produces electricity.

Applications

Reefer container drayage, port and intermodal haulage, and any operation whose chassis pool is dedicated to refrigerated work. If your containers move between chassis, a clip-on genset is the more flexible answer.
