Description

The Thermo King SB-210+ is the plus-generation revision of one of the highest-volume trailer units Thermo King built. The SB+ line — SB-110+, SB-210+, SB-310+ and the rail-spec SB-310R+ — was Thermo King’s answer to fleets asking for units that were simpler to operate, harder to set up wrong, and cheaper to run. Listed at $6,000.

The headline changes over the plain SB-210 are the electronic throttling valve and the option of SmartPower standby operation. Both attack the same thing: fuel burned for no reason.

What the Electronic Throttling Valve Does

Without an ETV, a reefer unit modulates capacity crudely — it runs, it cycles, it runs again. The ETV meters refrigerant flow continuously, so the unit can hold a tight band around setpoint at part load instead of overshooting and recovering. In practice that means less temperature swing across the load, fewer compressor starts, and measurably less fuel over a season.

SmartPower Electric Standby

SmartPower adds an electric motor alongside the diesel. Plugged into a 460 V, three-phase supply at a dock or a yard, the unit runs on grid power with the engine off. Thermo King put the operating cost saving at up to 75 percent for the hours a trailer spends stationary, and the second-order benefits matter too: no exhaust in a loading bay, no noise complaints at a night-time distribution centre, and engine hours that stop accumulating while the trailer earns nothing.

Applications

Long-haul frozen and chilled freight, grocery and foodservice distribution, and any operation whose trailers spend real hours at a dock with power available. If your trailers never plug in, the plain SB-210 saves you the premium.

Freight and Support

Ships by flatbed with forklift loading at both ends; freight is quoted to your ZIP code. Parts and service are available nationwide through the Thermo King dealer network, and we stock replacement TK486V engines. Contact us for engine hours and photographs of the exact unit.
