Description

The Magnatex MPL Series is the larger close-coupled sealless magnetic drive pump in the MP/MPL family. Magnatex was founded in Houston in 1985, at the point when heavy-duty sealless pumps were first gaining traction in American process industries, and the MP/MPL platform is the product that came out of that. Listed at $3,000.

Magnatex MPL Series Specifications

  • Type: close-coupled sealless magnetic drive centrifugal process pump
  • Magnets: rare earth neodymium, synchronous drive with no slip

  • Bearing arrangement: straddle-mounted double bearing
  • Construction: slip-fit, repairable on site without special tools
  • Efficiency: lower horsepower and lower NPSH required than competitive pumps
  • Solids handling: 1% at 500 µm, with optional baffled rear casing
  • Temperature option: construction available to 660°F
  • Price: $3,000

Close-Coupled Is a Cost Decision

A close-coupled pump mounts directly to the motor. There is no coupling, no baseplate to grout, no spacer and — critically — no alignment to get right at installation or check again after every thermal cycle. Misalignment is one of the most common causes of premature bearing and seal failure on conventional pumps, and a close-coupled design eliminates the possibility. It also takes up considerably less floor space, which matters in a congested plant.

Lower NPSH Required

Net positive suction head required is the specification that determines whether a pump will cavitate on your system. Cavitation destroys impellers and it is one of the few pump problems you can hear from across a plant room. A pump needing less NPSH gives more margin against a marginal suction condition — a tank running low, a hot liquid close to its vapour pressure, a long suction line. On a difficult suction it is often the whole reason a particular pump is selected.

Maintenance Without a Rebuild Shop

Slip-fit construction means the pump comes apart and goes back together without shims, heated bushing holders or specialist training. A plant maintenance team can repair one on site rather than crating it to a rebuild shop and waiting a fortnight for it. Combined with a longer mean time between repair, that is where the reduced total cost of ownership actually comes from.

Applications

Chemical and petrochemical processing, refining, pharmaceutical and cosmetics manufacture, food and beverage, pulp and paper, textiles and power generation. For ANSI B73.3 dimensional compliance see the MAXP Series; for smaller duties the MP Series.

Selection and Freight

Send us the flow, head, liquid, temperature and specific gravity and we will confirm the model and materials. Pumps ship palletised; freight quoted to your ZIP code.
