Description

The Magnatex MP Series is a close-coupled, magnetically driven, sealless centrifugal pump. There is no shaft passing through the casing and therefore no mechanical seal — the motor turns an outer magnet assembly, and that field drives an inner rotor through a sealed containment shell. Nothing crosses the pressure boundary, so there is nothing to leak. Listed at $2,000.

What a Sealless Pump Actually Saves You

Mechanical seals are the single most common cause of centrifugal pump failure, and on hazardous duty they are also the most expensive one — a seal failure on a toxic or noxious liquid is a reportable release, not just a repair. Removing the seal removes the failure mode, and with it the seal flush plan, the seal pot, the barrier fluid and everything else that has to be monitored and maintained around a sealed pump. Fewer unplanned shutdowns, no fugitive emissions from the pump, and a materially safer plant for the people working near it.

Why Neodymium and Why Straddle-Mounted

Rare earth neodymium magnets give a synchronous drive with no slip, which matters because slip in a magnetic coupling is dissipated as heat inside the containment shell — exactly where you least want it on a volatile liquid. Less internal heat than competing mag-drive designs is a direct consequence.

The bearing arrangement is the other design choice. Most competing mag-drive pumps cantilever the rotor from one end, which loads the bearings unevenly and wears them. Magnatex straddles the rotor between two bearings, so the shaft load is shared and the bearings last longer.

Applications

Chemical and petrochemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacture, cosmetics, refining, food and beverage, pulp and paper, textiles and power generation — anywhere a corrosive, toxic or noxious liquid has to be moved without a leak path.

Selecting a Pump

Flow, head, liquid, temperature and specific gravity between them determine the model and the materials. The MP is the compact close-coupled model; the MPL covers larger duties and the MAXP meets ANSI B73.3. Send us the duty point and the liquid and we will confirm the selection.
