The Yanmar TK486V is the four cylinder direct injection diesel Thermo King fitted to the entire SB trailer range, and it is the engine most likely to be at the end of its life on a unit that is otherwise worth keeping. We supply low-hour used engines — typically 8,000 to 11,000 hours — from $1,500, and can source fully reconditioned exchange units with a return-to-base parts and labour warranty.

Replaceable Liners Are the Reason These Last
A TK486V does not scrap itself when a bore wears. The cylinder liners come out and new ones go in, which is why engines with five figures on the hour meter are still worth rebuilding rather than replacing. It is also why a used engine at 10,000 hours is a reasonable purchase and not a gamble — the wear items are all serviceable.

A used engine is the lowest-cost way to get a unit running again and the right choice when you have a shop, a hoist and time. Freight and Installation
Engines ship palletised; freight is quoted to your delivery ZIP code. Installation is available through the Thermo King dealer network and most independent reefer shops. If the rest of the unit is as tired as the engine, compare against a complete used SB-210 before committing to the rebuild.
