Answers to the questions we hear most often about buying, shipping, and installing propane tanks. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Contact us or call (501) 218-9328.
What size propane tank do I need?
It depends on your appliances and climate. A 120–250 gallon tank suits a single appliance or small home; a 500-gallon tank is the most popular choice for whole-home heating in a 1,500–4,500 sq ft house; 1,000+ gallon tanks fit large or cold-climate homes; and 2,000–30,000 gallon tanks serve commercial and industrial needs. See our Buyers Guide for a full sizing chart.
What’s the difference between ASME and DOT tanks?
ASME tanks are permanently installed and refilled on site (home and commercial heating tanks). DOT cylinders are portable and refilled by exchange or at a station (forklift cylinders, BBQ bottles). If the tank stays put, you want ASME; if it moves, you want DOT.
Are your tanks new or used?
We sell both. New tanks come from quality manufacturers with full warranties. Certified used tanks are inspected, pressure-tested where required, and confirmed to meet ASME standards before shipping — a great way to save on added capacity.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is a flat $350 freight fee per order to the contiguous (lower 48) United States — no matter the tank size. Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories are quoted separately; contact us for a freight quote. See our Shipping Policy for details.
How long does delivery take?
Most orders ship within 1–2 business days and arrive in 3–10 business days depending on your location. You’ll receive tracking and delivery details by email, and you can check status any time on our Order Tracking page.
Do you deliver and install the tank?
Yes — we ship nationwide and offer delivery and installation support. Tanks must be placed on a level, stable surface meeting local clearance rules. Your first fill is arranged through a local propane supplier, who purges and pressure-checks the tank.
Can I install a propane tank underground?
Yes. We stock ASME tanks rated for underground installation. Buried tanks require a sacrificial anode bag and proper coating to prevent corrosion. Underground tanks preserve your view and yard space but cost more to install than above-ground tanks.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, and wire transfer/ACH (recommended for large orders). See our Payment Policy for details. Sales tax is applied where required — see our Sales Tax Policy.
Do you offer returns?
Yes, within our stated return window. A 15% restocking fee applies to non-defective returns of tanks 500 gallons and above, and custom or special-order items are non-returnable. Report any shipping damage within 5 days. Full terms are in our Return & Refund Policy.
Do I need a permit to install a propane tank?
Often, yes — permitting and setback requirements vary by municipality, especially for larger tanks. Always confirm local codes before installation. Our team can advise on general clearance guidelines, but local authorities have the final say.
Are your tanks ASME and DOT certified?
Every tank we sell meets ASME or DOT safety standards with proper data plates and valves. New tanks carry manufacturer certification; used tanks are inspected and verified to meet standards before shipping.
